Trevarno Reindeer

Out and about to The Trevarno Estate about 4 miles away. The original owners the Bickford-Smiths paid for the Porthleven institute/town clock in the 1890's. But fortunes rise and fall and sold on in 1994 the new owners are making an effort to create more than just a nice garden with a tea shop. As well as a long term garden restoration project, they have an estate walk, national museum of gardening and their own organic skincare workshop. They have also allowed the Helston railway preservation society to build a station on the estate on the old Helston to Gwinear Road line and hope to have a short ride up by next Easter and Yes, those are reindeer who have been there for about 3 months and are settling in nicely.

Here about 6 miles from us and nice walk up to the top of Godolphin Hill for some outstanding panoramic local views. Left is Tregonning Hill and another nice walk or it is easy to do both on the same hike.

Late October, this tall ship sailed in just off the harbour. At first we were not sure whether to grab a camera or send a fast rider to Squire Penrose and call out the local militia. All was fine though and here a three lovely pictures of the "Roald Amundsen" on its way to Ireland taken by our guests.

Many thanks for letting us use these great photos.

The classic shot of the pier and Bickford Smith institute with a  natural blue tinge that is a bit reminiscent of a 1970's post card.
If you study the clock tower you will notice some activity.
After one of the many gales of this year the town clock weather vane blew off. Two chaps here this week with the best view in the house carry out the worthy job of getting it back up again. By the afternoon the light NW wind is confirmed.

 Welcome to Porthleven

We are a local family business offering a selection of seven of our own individual self-catering accommodation sleeping up to 7 persons in the beautiful harbour village with 3 miles of beach, of Porthleven.

We are ideally positioned along the coastal Loe Bar Road. Where is this? Have a look at Contact Us for our location and village maps. But they are grouped together on or around the cliff top, overlooking the beach and Mounts Bay.

We have parking for each property in our own off road car park, which is only a minutes walk from all the Accommodation.

Steps to the to the beach are only 40 metres away, which is ideal for swimming or a stroll on the sands. And it is only a few minutes walk down to the pier and centre of the village and harbour side, which is surrounded by a variety of cafes, shops, bakery, restaurants and pubs.

Porthleven is also an excellent holiday base for seeing this part of Cornwall. To the west, Penzance and Lands End. The east, the Lizard Peninsula. Inland the attractive cathedral city of Truro.

If you want to leave the car behind, then for walking or cycling, its out of your front door and onto the coast path or Cornish lanes. Heading either east or west  with spectacular views all around. Look at our "Walking and Cycling Cornwall" page.

What else is there to do here? If you don't fancy a stroll about the harbour and shops, a coastal ramble, scenic drive, swimming, sunbathing and playing on the beach on the beach, fishing or boat trip or taking it too easy. Then look at our "What's On?" guides for events happening in Porthleven and west Cornwall.
